DRI members and trial counsel H. Lane Young II of Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP, in Atlanta, Georgia, and Andrea Caro of Zimmerman Kiser & Sutcliffe, P.A. in Orlando, Florida, recently obtained a verdict for defendant Brisk Transportation in Broward County, Florida, in a two-week trial. The case was brought by a plaintiff, individually for her injuries and on behalf of her minor child, alleging serious injuries, including quadriplegia of the child, stemming from a tractor-trailer incident on the Florida Turnpike. The plaintiff asked for over $75 million in damages from the jury. The jury deliberated less than two hours and returned with a verdict completely exonerating the defendant of any wrongdoing.
