With a robust legal career spanning over three decades, Laura Sundberg has established herself as a prominent figure in the Trusts and Estates field. She approaches her work with a blend of hands-on practical experience and a personal touch, making complex legal matters more approachable for her clients. Her expertise is especially beneficial to Trust and Estate beneficiaries and fiduciaries, guiding them through their duties and rights, and managing complex and contested matters in sometimes challenging situations. Her skill set is comprehensive, covering areas such as estate and trust administration, capacity issues, dispute resolution, and advanced tax and estate planning. She helps families with closely-held businesses develop inter-generational succession planning, and tax efficient transfers. Notably, she also has experience navigating the global intricacies of estate planning and addressing the post-mortem needs of non-US citizens and multi-national families.
Laura’s background is both diverse and practical. She graduated from Vanderbilt University, obtaining her B.A. in 1984 and her J.D. in 1987. Although she has many years of law firm practice, her early career included valuable experience as an Estate Tax Attorney with the IRS and a management role at SunTrust Bank, where she served as Fiduciary Counsel and led the bank’s Estates, Guardianships, and IRA departments.
Her professional achievements have been acknowledged by her peers and the legal community. She is Board Certified by the Florida Bar in Wills, Trusts & Estates and holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Her expertise has been recognized consistently by groups such as Best Lawyers of America, Florida’s Legal Elite, and Florida Super Lawyers. Additionally, she maintains a Superb rating on AVVO.com, a part of the Martindale network.
Beyond her practice, Laura is dedicated to legal education and mentorship. She has frequently lectured at Florida Bar Seminars, the Florida Trust School, and the Florida Judicial College, and has authored numerous publications, including chapters in “Administering Trusts in Florida” published by The Florida Bar. She also serves as a mediator and has been hired as an expert witness on cases involving complex trust, estate, and tax issues, contributing her expertise to conflict resolution in her field. She has led education in the practice of law in Florida as a past Chair of the Florida Bar CLE Committee and currently is the Vice-Chair of both the Communications Committee and the Professionalism and Ethics Committee of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar, where she remains an influential long-time member of the section’s Executive Council.
